SPECIAL EVENT:
World Peace Mandala
Schedule:
November 18:
10:00am – Opening Ceremony and prayers (10 mins), followed by construction of mandala to 5pm.
November 19:
10:00am – finish construction of mandala.
3:30pm – Closing Ceremony, dissolution of mandala.
4:00pm – procession to beach, disperse sand.
Drop in for as long as you like during the creation of the mandala. Come back for the closing ceremony and procession to the beach.
Unique to Tibetan Buddhism, sand mandalas are believed to effect purification and healing for the environment and to those who view it. Prior to a sand mandala’s creation, monks consecrate the site with sacred chants, invoking deities to ask for their healing blessings. The finished mandala is consecrated and, having served its purpose, is swept up and dispersed into flowing water.
